1984 was a deeply compelling novel for me, and I think that is partly because I have lived in countries where the themes explored in the book are accurate (if in some cases exaggerated) reflections of reality. It was the personal connection to the main character and the world of the story that made it one of my favourite reads. The book is mentioned in the first film and later seen in a digital databank version in the sequel. 1984 is an extremely important piece of literature, and I'm so glad I decided to read it. I think what I found the most terrifying was the lack of command - Nobody knows if Big Brother is real, even though he's supposed to be in charge, and nobody knows if the rebellion is truly real.
